The world around us

24

24 is in the middle of its seventh season now and it rarely disappoints, if ever.  I got into this show after the second season and have been watching it religiously.  I am a huge television buff, watching house, bones, big bang theory, how I met your mother, the office, 30 rock, Fringe, Lie to me and I am sure there are a few other prime-time television shows I am missing from that list.  In this post, however, I am going to talk about this season of 24.

Back in november, Fox had a two hour “teaser” episode of 24 where Jack is in Africa and he must save these children from the rebel forces.  He gets to the border and is willing to be taken into US custody in exchange for the children’s safety.  We move forward to the beginning of the season in January, and Jack is in court testifying in front of congress about his methodology of obtaining information from the many terrorist attacks he has stopped… on his own.

If there was a real Jack Bauer in this country, and he had to torture people and break many laws to get what he had to in order to stop attacks, then why the hell would congress be willing to put a man like this in jail?  I am not going to lie, when I was watching the trial with my roommates, I was yelling at the screen because I think it’s absurd that a government would not be thankful for a person like Jack Bauer.  The crazy part is that this show holds some truth in that I could see the government doing this to a person like Jack Bauer.

The biggest shocker of the season was the ressurrection of Tony Almeida.  I honestly didn’t think it was crazy that the writers brought Tony back.  They have brought Jack back from the dead… but then again… its Jack, he is God.  I have always liked Tony, and seeing him and Jack working together again brought back thoughts of a reminiscent past and made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Tony was against the government for the years that he was not in 24, that was his back story, but when his terrorist group began dealing with things that Tony felt were morally wrong, he called Buchanan.  Now we got Buchanan, Jack, Tony, and Chloe working together to stop a rebel col. from killing any more Americans.  I have never really liked Chloe, but damn is she good with computers.

Last weeks episode was alright, they put the President of Sangala and his wife in to the Col.’s hands only to come back and save them.  Apparently they destroyed the CIP device, but if that were true what kind of damage could the Col. inflict now?  I guess we will find out tonight at 9 ET.  I’m gonna post my thoughts and opinion of tonight’s episode later tonight.
